Tattoo Removal

There are an estimated 20-30 million tattooed people in the world and about 50% of them regret all or part of their tattoos and want to have them removed completely, or faded enough to allow for re-tattooing of a new design over an old tattoo. Q-switched lasers have revolutionised tattoo removal and made the treatment accessible to those wishing to remove tattoos.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

Q-switched lasers work by emitting very short-lived, high energy wavelengths of light that break up the tattoo ink into smaller particles that the body can digest and remove. Although the Q-switched laser treatments require several sessions to successfully remove or fade a tattoo, they have the greatest chance of returning your skin to its previous state in comparison to the other methods of tattoo removal. Q-switched lasers allow for complete or partial removal of the tattoo.

WHAT TYPES OF TATTOOS CAN BE REMOVED?

Nearly all tattoos can be treated, both amateur and professional tattoos, however professional tattoos may require more treatments to achieve desired results. All colours can be treated, however some may be difficult and require more treatments and have a lower chance of complete removal. White, yellow and skin coloured tattoos tend to be difficult to remove.

Traumatic tattoos, or those caused by dirt or debris being embedded in the skin, e.g. after a motorbike accident, can also be removed in the same manner as conventional tattoos.

HOW OFTEN CAN I HAVE A TREATMENT?

Treatments may be performed approximately 6 to 8 weeks apart, giving the area sufficient time to heal between sessions. This minimises the chances of scarring and other complications.

DOES IT HURT?

While medical-grade Q-switched laser treatments can cause slight discomfort, this is usually only minor, and is a similar sensation to a rubber band snapping on your skin. Some side affects are possible with laser tattoo removal, though these are usually minor and do not last long. The most common of side effects for medical-grade Q-switched lasers include: redness, swelling and minor blistering.

CAN THE AREA BE RE-TATTOOED?

Yes! Once the treated area has fully healed, it is perfectly fine for the skin to be re-tattooed.
